Child Sponsorship
Nearly 900 children are sponsored at HFC-Ethiopia, including more than 120 children sponsored through HFC-US.
The Youth Center at Hope for Children
The Youth Center at HFC-Ethiopia opened its doors in 2007 with funding provided by HFC-US. Since then, we have worked with an outstanding teaching staff and Center director to support the following activities:
- More than 400 children have attended English, computer, tutoring and art classes after school and during the summer break.
- English skills have sky-rocketed, giving more children a chance at passing the national exams which are given primarily in English.
- Pass-rates for the national exams are rising, with all of the Center students who took the 10th grade exam in spring 2011 qualifying for pre-university study. All four students who took the 12th grade exam passed, and are now attending university – all exceptional accomplishments!
- The Youth Center library now includes more than 2,000 books.
Scholarships
- In 2009, we awarded our first round of 18 vocational scholarships.
- To date, 62 students have received scholarship assistance.
Group Homes
- In September 2011, HFC-US sponsored its first group home in Addis Ababa providing a much-needed place to live for four young children who had just lost both parents to AIDS and a lovely young woman who had recently regained her health at HFC-Ethiopia’s House of Hope and had reunited with her three children.
