Today, there are nearly 1 million children in Ethiopia who have lost one or both parents to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Hope for Children-United States (HFC-US) is committed to helping these children grow up to be healthy, well educated, self-sufficient adults.
HFC-US supports three major types of programs:
- Child sponsorship: an annual commitment of $350 helps to ensure that each sponsored child has food, shelter, clothing, and school fees and uniforms until the age of 18.
- Education and training programs: after-school activities at a vibrant Youth Center build critical educational and social skills; scholarships help older youth pursue the vocational and university training that will help them find jobs after sponsorship ends.
- Group home: for orphans without any place to live, the group home opens the door to a stable, warm family environment with a caring housemother.
- St. Yared’s School: a top-notch education for high-potential youngsters from the most impoverished backgrounds.
Read more about each of these program areas and learn about the impact they are having in the lives of these young people.
