Tsigerada – Chef Extraordinaire
Tsigerada’s parents died when she was 14 leaving her three brothers and her with no one to care for them. Fortunately, HFC was there to help. Thanks to a vocational scholarship provided by us through the Youth Center, Tsigerada completed a course in food preparation and is now employed as chef. She is on her way to realizing her dream of someday having her own restaurant. She is pictured here (in the center) serving the food she and two other students made for the very large Youth Center celebration that we attended in 2010– it was delicious!
Wondemagegn – Future Teacher
Wondemagegn is now in the second of three years of training to become certified to teach grades 1 to 4. Wonde’s life has not been easy. When he was a young boy, his left arm was amputated after a broken bone was not set and the arm turned gangrenous. Shortly afterwards, Wonde’s mother died of AIDS, leaving him with no one to take care of him. He lived alone on the streets of Addis until a kind woman took him in and brought him to Hope for Children. Today, Wonde is a star. Despite a recent, difficult bout with appendicitis, he has maintained a very high grade point average. As anyone who has met Wonde will tell you, he is going to be an awesome teacher.
